Amec Foster Wheeler environmental contract for nuclear new build
Tuesday, Aug 02, 2016
Amec Foster Wheeler announces today that it has been awarded a continuation of a contract to provide environmental support by NuGeneration Limited (NuGen) for the proposed nuclear power station at Moorside, Cumbria. This will be the largest nuclear build project currently proposed in the UK which will deliver up to 3.8GW gross capacity on completion.

Amec Foster Wheeler will undertake modelling and assessment work which will enable NuGen to submit an environmental impact assessment in support of a Development Consent Order application and Environmental Permit applications in 2017. This builds on Amec Foster Wheeler’s successful delivery of the initial phases of the environmental impact assessment programme, site characterisation, two major consultation stages and initial work on the site’s environmental permits.

In fulfilling its role at Moorside, Amec Foster Wheeler’s environmental and radiological experts have utilised vast experience in areas such as ecology, hydrogeology, hydrology, radiological assessment, air quality and noise and vibration. Over the last 10 years this market-leading team has helped clients assess the impacts of proposed nuclear new builds at Hinkley Point, Sizewell, Wylfa and Moorside. Amec Foster Wheeler continues to grow its team of experts to further support UK and international nuclear new build projects.

Rob Brown, Managing Director of Amec Foster Wheeler’s Environment and Infrastructure business in Europe, said:

“Amec Foster Wheeler is the leading provider of environmental support to Moorside, this nationally significant infrastructure project.

“We are delighted to be developing a long-term partnership with NuGen, providing quality, time-critical environmental deliverables, and enhancing our position as a leading player in the UK nuclear new build programme.”

Paula Madill, NuGen’s Head of Environment welcomed the ongoing support for environmental impact assessments, and said:

“The NuGen and Amec Foster Wheeler partnership has worked successfully over a number of years and NuGen is pleased to continue this partnership as the environmental impact assessment and operation permits are prepared ahead of delivery in early 2017.”
