Baosteel Produces Ultra-thin and “Double Resistant” Pipeline Steel for Heavy Raw Material Transfer Project

Friday, Nov 27, 2009

Recently Baosteel successfully produced 10.3mm and 11.1mm ultra-thin, light crack and H2S “double resistant” pipeline steel, which will be applied to manufacture the longitudinally welded pipes for Qingdao’s Huangdao to Weifang heavy liquid chemical raw material transfer pipeline project.

With a total investment of RMB 1,217 million, Huangdao to Weifang heavy liquid chemical raw material transfer pipeline project starts from the Oil Port Company of Qingdao Port (Group) Co., Ltd. in Huangdao District and ends in Weifang Binhai Economic Development Area with a total pipeline length of 200km, which can transfer 15 million tons of heavy liquid chemical raw material every year after completion. The project can solve the problem of difficult effective supply guarantee for many petrochemical enterprises in the coastal area north of Weifang, Shandong due to main reliance on transportation by automobiles.

Although Baosteel has a history for producing pipeline steel for many years, it is still the first time for Baosteel to produce ultra thin “double” resistant pipeline steel. After the feasibility study report and project construction report of Huangdao to Weifang heavy liquid chemical raw material transfer pipeline project are approved, Baosteel immediately started to follow up the project and held many commercial and technical exchanges with the buyer. Finally Baosteel is awarded the manufacture contract for 6000t of ultra thin “double” resistant pipeline steel.

According to the inspection, the performance of the first lot of 1000t urtra thin “double resistant” pipeline steel is qualified by 96.3%.
